This will be a fun and exciting school year! My classes this year are Baking and Pastry, Reading and Money Management.
First semester in Baking and Pastry, we have class of about 20 students. That means that students will be cooking in labs with only three or four group members. Assignments for the week are under the class name. Please note I do make changes during the week depending on students competance and interests.
I can not emphasize enough the importance of saving assignment sheets. Returned assignments are similar to receipts in business. During past years, the grades have not been recorded on the computer, even when I have put a grade on the paper. Please keep your papers until after each grading period.
Another reason for keeping the assignments is that the final is an open book final, questions come directly from handouts. While you may use textbooks, students who have kept the assignments score higher.
Of importance to parents, students get credit for cooking at home only if everything is cleaned up. This includes all the cooking utensils washed, sink, counters and floor clean. Hopefully you will enjoy this year as much as I expect to, with lots of good eats and fun times.
Reading class focuses on skill development. Throughout the semester, students will do reading assignments to develop eye strength and coordination. Reading fluency and comprehension is developed in paired readings. Strategies for identifying different question formats begins with ways to identify main ideas and details. Close observation of detail is presented in language reviews and phonic information.
