By the time children reach age 5 they need to have been read buckets of books. We plan to provide free books at 25 locations in the Howard Lake community for children ages birth to 5. Families will choose books from the buckets, take them home to read and return them to any Bucket of Books location. Books will be available in February along with specific location information. Free Concussion Training For Parents, Volunteers And Coaches

The Minnesota State Legislature has enacted a law requiring concussion training for all coaches, paid or volunteer, who work with youth ages 18 and younger. We can help athletes stay active and healthy by knowing the facts about concussion and when it is safe for athletes to return to play. Heads Up: Concussion in Youth Sports is a free online course available to coaches, parents, and others helping to keep athletes safe from concussion. It features interviews with leading experts, dynamic graphics and interactive exercises, and compelling storytelling to help you recognize a concussion and know how to respond if you think that your athlete might have a concussion. This training takes less than 30 minutes. CDC Concussion Training Link: www.cdc.gov/concussion/headsup/online_training.html After you have completed the training, print a Certificate of Completion. If you are ever planning on coaching or volunteering to help with a Community Education activity our office must have a copy of that certificate before you can begin coaching. Please drop it off at the Community Education offi ce (Door A at the MS), mail it (HLWW Community Education, P.O.Box 708, Howard Lake, MN 55349), FAX it (320-543-4631) or scan and email it to: mmarketon@hlww.k12.mn.us. Please also keep a copy for your records. If you do not have access to a computer please call Stacy at 320-543-3600 and she will assist you.
