Free program, ages 4-6, 7 and older
    Join us for these summer fun days. Enjoy being creative while making an art or craft project, listen to a story and take home a book each week. The book is yours to keep. Juggling for Beginners
Completed grades 4-8
    Come discover the secrets of multi-object manipulation in this beginning juggling class. Throw things! Catch things! Learn to manipulate objects in the air, on the body and on the ground. Students will discover the right-brain, left-brain shift that occurs when practicing juggling one, two, three or more objects. A safe, fun and supportive environment in which each and every participant succeeds. This hands-on, interactive workshop promises that you’ll leave the class having succeeded in learning how to juggle. Class maximum 15. Register by July 24.

Design Your Own T-Shirt
Completed grades K-6
    Decorate a t-shirt using fabric markers, stencils and stamps. Bring a white 100% cotton t-shirt that has been pre-washed, do not use fabric softener. Come and use your creativity. Class maximum 15. Register by July 10.

     See what the glaciers and oceans have left for us. Come discover and touch Kim’s fossil collection from across the Midwest. Why do you only find them in certain areas? Turtle Wood Project

     This fun turtle is 11x6 inches and has an open space to store your treasures or use as a centerpiece. Assemble, paint and personalize your turtle using acrylic paints. Dress for painting. Maximum 8. Register by June 28.

Chess Camps June 14 and August 16
Know How to Play Chess?
     HLWW Chess Club will be having chess camp 10 am-2 pm on Wednesday, June 14 and Wednesday, August 16. All skill levels welcome as long as you know the basic rules of chess.
     You may attend one or both camps. There will be two tournaments with game play scavenger hunts intermixed to enjoy learning coordinates and mapping using the algebraic notation of the chess board. It may sound boring but it will be a lot of fun including prizes! The fee is for snacks and lunch. Please indicate food allergies during registration.

Chess in the Area
     Plan to stop by the Howard Lake Farmers Market at Memorial Park every first and third Saturday morning with your kids to enjoy some casual chess! We will have boards set up and at least one willing opponent. Enjoy the outside air and a fun, casual chess game.

Pokemon Movie Making
Completed grades 1-5
    Work on a stop motion animated Pokemon Movie. Pick your favorite characters to star in your mini-movie. The possibilities are endless. Action figures, props and backdrops will be available for filming in class. Handle all the technical details including using a digital movie camera, filming scenes, stop-motion animation, digital editing and adding finishing special effects and transitions to the movie. Student groups’ final projects will be emailed to parents, or student may bring a USB jump drive the last day. Register by June 7.

Intro to Coding with Super Heroes
Completed grades K-2
    Create your own video game! Love Video games? Students as young as 5 years old can create their own platform video games in this cool class! Choose your storyline with popular super heroes as your star; add challenges and levels of difficulty, then share by email or post on the web to challenge family and friends. Now young students can practice math, logic and programming and put their video game talents to work! Game will be in an animated flash format, viewable in most internet browsers. Bring a jump drive to the last day of class or files can be emailed to parents. Register by July 10.

Robotics: Star Wars Jedi & Imperial Droids
Completed grades 3-8
    Star Wars, Robotics and Engineering! Using the “Micro Scout” Lego Mindstorm Robtics System’s microcomputer for the brain of our droids. Use the built-in light sensor, motor and sound to bring our droids to life. Create familiar Star Wards droids or use the Force to create droids of your design. In this exciting hands-on class student working in pairs will be using the Robotic Mindstorms Droid and Darkside developer kit to build and experiment with up to 6 different models. Learn about robotics and engineering as we build the base models, then customized the droids. Possible models include the micro-walker, L8GO Trainer, Starfighter, X-Walker. Bring a drink & snack daily. Register by July 10.

Java Minecraft Modding: Super-Tool
Completed grades 3-8
     Create a custom Super-tool. Learn and use elements of Java coding to Create a Minecraft Mod. Students will create a set of tools and weapons, as well as comfortable with keyboarding and of course playing Minecraft! At the end of class take home your Mods to share with family and friends. Bring a USB drive, snacks and drink each day. Register by June 7.

Air Dry Sculpture and Slime Making
Completed Grades K-3, 4-8
     This class will teach you to create a small scale air sculpture and slime, a putty like material. Participants will use clay to create artwork based on class directed examples or your own creative ideas. We will make slime in your choice of color and explore the properties of slime.      Come and learn pencil drawing skills! Participants will work with graphite drawing pencils and colored pencils to create artwork. Learn basic sketching and shading techniques. Back Yard Science

     Ever wonder what is under your back yard, what is the bird in the tree, or how to tell if a storm is coming? Come outside and explore the wonders of nature in your backyard.  Look at clouds, dig for worms, and go on a bird hunt are some of the activities included in this class. Class maximum 12. Take Apart-What’s Inside?

     Take apart a computer, radio, toaster or other electronic device to see what is inside. Magnets, wire, soldered pieces, ball bearings. What will you find? Snap Circuits Makerspace

     This is hands-on experience designing and building models of working electrical circuits using  Snap Circuits Jr. SC-100 electronics discovery kits. Working models include a photo sensor, a flashing light and adjustable volume siren. Class maximum 8. Register by June 29.
